At Grand-Village-Plage, the island of Oleron reconnects with its past and its extraordinary salt heritage. After a long period of exploitation, the salt marshes have been replaced by the oyster beds for which the island is famous.
Today, the Port des Salines revives this ancestral activity with a reconstructed traditional village and its multicolored huts, and salt marshes run by young sauniers who have settled there to revive the farms of yesteryear.

The Port des Salines, which has been awarded the Pôle Nature label, is a site for discovering the history of salt production in oléron and the know-how of the salt worker.
