Chassiron lighthouse

Get some height!

Located on the headland of the same name, once known as “the end of the world”, the 150-year-old Chassiron lighthouse allows sailors to enter the waters of the reef-laden Antioche channel, notorious for its many shipwrecks.

With its three black stripes, it looks like a convict! Originally white, its tower was painted in 1926 to differentiate it from the Baleines lighthouse on the Ile de Ré.

The 46-metre-high Chassiron lighthouse promises a breathtaking view as you climb the 224 steps to the lantern. You’ll be able to admire La Rochelle, the islands of Ré and Aix, the entire length of Oléron, Fort Boyard and the ocean as far as the eye can see!

At the foot of the lighthouse, the tour continues to the heart of the gardens, which won a gold medal at the 2008 Victoires du Paysage awards and have been awarded the “remarkable garden” label. The gardens represent a compass rose, retracing the history of the Pointe and the island’s maritime and agricultural past through plant beds, vegetable gardens and educational tools.
