Fort Boyard

Sailing around Fort Boyard…

During your stay at the 5-star La Boulinière campsite, discover this stone vessel, an emblematic figure of the Charente-Maritime region. Fort Boyard stands in the very heart of the Pertuis, halfway between the islands of Aix and Oléron.

Built to defend the mouth of the Charente, the harbour of Ile d’Aix and the Rochefort arsenal, it reinforced the defence system built along the coast and on the islands of Charente-Maritime. It was used as a prison at the end of the 19th century, then abandoned by the army.

In the end, it was television that saved Fort Boyard. Owned by the Conseil Général de la Charente-Maritime since 1989, Fort Boyard has enjoyed a national and international media career since it was first broadcast in 1990.

Numerous boat trips are organized around Fort Boyard (the fort is not accessible to the public), offering you an admirable view. You can also take a tour of Fort Boyard, with a stopover on Ile d’Aix.
