The villages of Saint-Georges d’Oléron
Saint-Georges d’Oléron is made up of 7 villages, each with its own character and authenticity, to be discovered on foot or by bike: Boyardville, Sauzelle, Les Sables-Vignier, Domino, Chaucre, Le Douhet and Foulerot/Plaisance.
The two harbors, Boyardville and Le Douhet, welcome yachtsmen and are the starting point for walks and cruises at sea.

The village
The village of Saint-Georges d’Oléron boasts the oldest and most remarkable building on the island, with its Romanesque church, listed as a Monument Historique since 1931. Its current nave, fortified against invasion, dates from the 11th century. A victim of the Wars of Religion in the 16th and 17th centuries, it was plundered and mutilated on numerous occasions, and underwent major restoration work from 1968 onwards.
The magnificent, slate-roofed halles de Saint-Georges d’Oléron, dating from the late 19th century, are enthroned in the center of the town.
In the square, fine late 19th-century bourgeois houses bear witness to the prosperity of commerce at the time.
